Curating CVARC history

Hi all,

I think it’s worth mentioning – for those that don’t know – that our website has a history page, found here: https://w1bd.club/history/
You may notice that it’s a bit content-light at the moment. We’d love to add to this page with details about how the club was formed, who was involved, and other info like repeater airdates. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any historical information on CVARC, or might know somebody how does.

Thank you!

Fox box pictures

Hi all,

Thank you to everyone who showed up to the meeting. It was well received, and I think all involved had a good time – and hopefully learned at least a little about foxhunting! Here are some photos from the meeting, as well as detailed pictures of the “fox box” for those interested.

A closer look inside. The heart of the system is a Kenwood TH-21AT handheld transceiver, driven with a custom audio circuit using a microcontroller.

The box in the wild, shortly after being found near the 7 Fireplaces at Hubbard Park in Montpelier. At 150 mW output, this was heard nearly two miles away!

Happy November everyone!

Our monthly meeting will be held this Wednesday, November 6th at 6pm at the Brown Public Library in Northfield. (address below)

We’ll be having a short presentation on an introduction to foxhunting (aka transmitter finding), and discussion on planning a bigger event with the club. There will also be talks on the 2020 Vermont QSO party, as well as Winter Field Day. We hope to see you there!

Fall Foxhunt 2019

Hi all,

As was discussed during this month’s meeting last week, I proposed the possibility of a foxhunt event for the end of the month, or possibly into early November. This would be a great club activity to practice radio direction finding, and to learn about different techniques and electronics to use during a hunt. I’ve started a forum post to open discussion about this event, with a tentative plan. All suggestions are welcome! You can respond to the post, or reach out directly on the “contact us” page.

Meeting tonight 10/2, WAV award, and NEARfest XXVI

Hi all,

We will be meeting as we normally do at the Steak House in Berlin, starting at 6pm. We’ll be discussing the club budget, repeater status, and potential fall activities.

The criteria for receiving the Worked All Vermont award are now on our website! Please visit this page to learn more if you are interested.

For those who don’t know, the New England Amateur Radio festival (or NEARfest) will be happening next weekend, October 11 and 12, 2019. The event runs from Friday morning at 9 to Saturday afternoon at 3. Come join in on the fun and see different forums, events, and of course lots of radio equipment!

Hope to see you at the meeting.
