NSB results, meeting 9/4, and Groton Trail Run

Good day everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day. I just wanted to make a thank-you post for all those who were involved with communications help at the Northfield Savings Bank 5k race this weekend (8/31). Everything went very smoothly, and we heard several thank-yous from NSB staff and race coordinators for CVARCs help. Job well done!

There will be a meeting this Wednesday, 9/4, at the Steak House Restaurant at 6pm as usual. We’ll be discussing the plan for the Groton Forest Trail Run next weekend (September 7th at 7am), so anyone wishing to volunteer should make an appearance. At the time of this post, we are still in need of two (2) additional people, so don’t hesitate to reach out to the club if you’re interested!

There will be a general Groton info post closer to the date. We will give directions to aid stations, equipment required, and repeater access details.

Upcoming races – volunteers needed!

CVARC will be assisting with communications on two upcoming races at the end of August and beginning of September.

The first is the Northfield Savings Bank 41st annual footrace, happening Saturday, August 31st at 9:30am. We would like to have volunteers show up around 8:30 so we have some time to coordinate operator positions around the race. The plan is to use 2-meter simplex for race communications.

The second is the Groton Forest Trail Run, happening Saturday, September 7th at 7am. This is a pretty early one, so operators should plan to meet at Boulder Beach in Groton at 6am to coordinate. There are two race trails – 27 mile and 15 mile, which start at 7am and 9am respectively. The plan for this race is to use the Cabot repeater for communications, with a mobile UHF repeater as a fallback if coverage is less than ideal. There are a few HTs that can be loaned out if you do not have a UHF radio.

Please contact myself (Patrick) or Fred Doten if you’d like to participate.

Meeting 7/10 and additional Field Day updates

Good evening everyone,

We will be meeting on Wednesday, July 10th at the Steak House restaurant at 6pm – postponed from last Weds. due to the holiday. We hope to see you there!

As for field day, efforts are still being put forth to tabulate contacts and bonus points for a final “claimed score”. Continue to check the Field Day 2019 page on the website for updates.

Field Day updates

Hello everyone,

Field Day 2019 is fast approaching! As we finalize details for the event, please continue to check the field day page, available here: www.w1bd.club/fieldday/

There are directions to the tower from downtown Montpelier, as well as parking information. We are still working on getting volunteers for a shuttle service to and from the Tower for those who have difficulty navigating the terrain, so if you’re interested in helping out, please contact one of our officers.

Talk-in services will be available before and during Field Day on the Williamstown repeater.  Please call W1BD.

Any volunteers are welcome to join us this Friday morning (6/21) after 10am to help setup the site. The National Guard has kindly offered their services and tents for the duration of the event, so we’ll be setting those up at 10 and stringing antennas soon after.

We hope to see you there!

June 5th meeting & field day update

This month’s meeting will be held on the Williamstown repeater (625) at 6pm. This will be conducted like a directed net, similar to the Sunday night net. The President will act as net control, and direct all traffic alongside the other club officers. Club members and non-members alike are welcome and invited to check in. We will stay on the air to answer questions at the end.

The CVARC Field Day planning committee will be working on building antennas for field day. If you are interested in assisting with this effort, please contact one of the officers.
